After a day of food and fun, the 21st annual John C. Fremont Days is ready for its grand finale.

Stepping off at 1:30 p.m. today is the combined John C. Fremont Days/Fremont 4-H Fair parade. This year's parade route begins at First and Main streets. From there it heads north on Main Street to 11th Street before heading east to Clarkson Street.

The parade is followed by Floats After Floats - free rootbeer floats while they last - at Midland Lutheran College.

But the day isn't over when the parade ends.

Closing ceremonies, with music provided by Broadwalk, wrap up the festival at 6 p.m. This year's Pathfinder Award will be presented to Prscilla Hauser during the ceremony.

Saturday was a day of food and fun.

Hundreds of people filled the downtown stage bleachers to cheer on the contestants in a variety of food eating contests. Children and adults woofed down hot dogs, chicken wings and hot wings.

For those who didn't like eating in a contest, there were plenty of food opportunities - from giant tenderloins and half-pound bratwurst to barbecue sandwiches and Greek specialities - at the festival's two food courts. Both will be open Sunday, too.

Children had their own play area Saturday. Midland Lutheran College's campus green held a variety of games and activities during the morning and early afternoon.

Other kids found their way to the downtown area to bounce around on the giant inflatables.

Many of us grew up celebrating the holidays just the same as Addie did. It is like a looking glass to the past. Also the interactions between Jason Robards and Mildred Natwick are superb acting. I never tire of watching any of the movies. It just seems like I am watching a girl from my past involved in the various epsides.

The first time I saw ALL FOUR of the movies on TV, I knew I had seen something very special. I STILL feel that way.

I'm always so appreciative of people with a writing gift such as Gail Rock's that translates so well to the television/movie medium. The sensitivity she portrays through the characters and situations draw you right into that whole social era, so that the past comes alive and emotionally tangible. I agree that the acting in The House Without a Christmas Tree is superlative, which makes it one of my all-time Christmas favorities.
