Missionaries to speak in Hooper

Wednesday, Jul 02, 2008 - 10:41:09 am CDT

Evan and Audrey Eusey will speak at both the

8:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. worship experiences at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 601 E. Fulton St., in Hooper.

Evan and Audrey met at their public university. They married in 2002 and graduated in 2003. Evan said he knew God was calling him to be a missionary while in middle school in Emporia, Kan. Audrey considered serving on the mission field immediately after high school in Kansas City, but circumstances led her to attend college first.

After marriage the couple moved to South Carolina for training at Columbia International University’s Seminary and School for Missions. During this time of training they became involved in reaching out to Christian Japanese university students. Evan and Audrey built friendships with many Japanese students, learning about the culture and reflecting on the barriers to the gospel penetrating Japan.

Evan was ordained in June 2007. Their new home is Sapporo, Japan. Their first four-year term consists of two more years of intensive language school followed by two years of initial ministry.

Their presentation on Sunday will include an overview of the status of Christianity in Japan, a brief video and discussion of the challenges of life and ministry in Japan. They will also offer ways to get involved in Christian outreach in Japan.
