Libbie Vlach, 83, of Dodge died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Parkview Nursing Home in Dodge.
She was born Dec. 31, 1924, in the Tabor area of Colfax County to Adolph and Rose (Nykodem) Dostal. She attended Colfax County Rural School District 37 and graduated from Howells High School in 1942. She married Ed Vlach on Oct. 16, 1945, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Tabor and they resided on a farm south of Dodge until they moved to Dodge in 2001.
Libbie worked at Schulte’s Tavern (later Pat & Leo’s), Dana Dannelly Insurance Agency and Norman Mendlik Insurance Agency until she retired in 1986. She enjoyed reading, bowling, card games and spending time with her family and friends. She had been a resident of Parkview Nursing Home since May 2005. Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 12, 2006.
Survivors include: a son, Jim (and wife, Karen) Vlach of Lyons; a daughter, Kate (and husband, John) Dirkschneider of Dodge; two grandchildren, Phil (and wife, Kate) Vlach of Sioux City, Iowa, and Anne Vlach of Lincoln; a brother, Herman (and wife, Arlene) Dostal of Howells; two sisters-in-law, Angela Dvorak of Howells and Marie Scribner of Fremont.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Raymond and Adolph Dostal; and three sisters, Vlasta Cakl, Mildred Mares and Emma Thiem.
The funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday, all at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
