The funeral for A. Dean Arps, 74, of Morse Bluff will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Fremont.

He died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Schuyler to Fred and Esther (Stoltenberg) Arps. He grew up in the Linwood and Abie area. He was a graduate of David City High School. In 1952, he and his father started a gravel pumping business. He then served in the U.S. Army from July 3, 1956, to April 2, 1958. After his discharge, Dean and his father started Arps Red-E-Mix at North Bend. He lived in North Bend from the late 1950s to 1973, when he moved to Fremont. He retired from the concrete business in 1989 and then began farming at North Bend in 1990. He moved to Morse Bluff in 2002.

He married Marilyn J. Loseke on May 24, 1958, in Schuyler. She died Feb. 22, 2003.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont, Masonic Lodge 119, A.F. & A.M. of North Bend, American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff and AmVets Post 20 of North Bend.

Survivors include: two sons, Michael (and wife, Tricia) Arps of Fremont and Mitch Arps (and special friend, Kathy Van Waes) of Fremont; special friend, Virginia Studt of Fremont; and two grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a brother.

The Rev. Charlie Axness will officiate Thursday’s service. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-11 a.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

A memorial has been established to the First Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear about your Dad. I know he will be missed by his family and all of his many friends (especially my Dad). Your Dads passing came the same day as my Mom's, 12 years later. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you guys. Debbie
