Summer programming at the Fremont Family YMCA has come to an end and what a busy summer it has been.
Summer Fun Club has wrapped up another successful summer with about 100 youths spending their weekdays with us. Each day was filled with activities here at the Y and also included trips to Fremont city parks, Keene Memorial Library, bowling, roller skating, Henry Doorly Zoo, Ronin Pool, Splash Station and the Wildlife Safari.
Along with the above activities our Summer Fun Club youths also participated in the Courteous Kids Course. This was a four-day class that taught the kids the proper way to make introductions, phone etiquette, how to write a thank you note and table manners.
On the last day of class, each child that participated had a sit-down meal with all of the proper table settings. They also had to practice proper table manners. At the end of the course, each kid received a certificate of completion.
We wish to thank Christensen Lumber Company, First State Bank and Trust Company, Sid Dillon, Whiskey Creek, Y’s Men Club and the Y’s Women Club for their contributions that made this program possible.
We hope to see all of our Summer Fun kids in the Before/After School Friends Club which began on Aug. 21. If you need to enroll your child in this program, please pick up a flyer at the YMCA’s front desk.
Remember, we have on-site care at Bell Field, Clarmar, Howard, Linden and Milliken Park elementary schools. If your child attends Grant, Washington, Bergan or Trinity schools, we will transport them back here to the Y.
Please don’t let your child go home to an empty house. We will keep them busy and supervised until you are able to come and pick them up. Please call the YMCA at 721-6952 if you have any questions about this program.
Our preschool classes will also begin this fall. Something we are doing new this year with this program is that we are opening it up to the public. Your child does not have to attend Y-Care to attend the YMCA’s preschool classes.
We offer the following classes: 3-year-olds meet on Monday/Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon; 4- and 5-year-olds meet on Monday/Wednesday/Thursday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Please fill out a registration form at the YMCA’s front desk if you are interested or call 721-6952 if you have questions.
Registration deadlines for fall youth sports leagues (baseball, flag football, soccer and volleyball) is Aug. 27. Please watch for these flyers to come home with your child after school starts or if you wish to register now, they are available at our front desk. Youth sports leagues will begin on Sept. 11 (baseball) and Sept. 13 (flag football, soccer and volleyball).
Registrations are also being accepted for fall adult sports leagues such as flag football, 4-on-4 basketball, mixed and women’s volleyball and assorted fitness classes. Pick up a flyer at the front desk and get your teams ready to roll.
Fall sessions of swimming, gymnastics and tennis lessons begin the week of Sept. 3. Registration for these lessons are now underway. These registrations must be made in person at the YMCA’s front desk.
For those of you who might need a "kick start" about getting back into shape, come and try our third annual W.O.W. Walk/Run which will be held this year on Sept. 20. This will consist of a 1- and 2-mile walk and a 2- and 5-mile run.
This event is very non-competitive but is held to encourage everyone to get up and get active. You do not have to be a world-class athlete to be a part of this. Bring a friend (or two or seven) and be a part of helping to make Fremont a Well City. Registrations can be made at the front desk.
Here’s hoping you had a relaxing and fun summer. With the onset of the fall season, this is a great time to get back into a fitness regiment. Please come in and take advantage of our fantastic wellness center.
Summer sometimes has a way of letting us get a little lax in thinking about our health. Make a new commitment this fall to take a bit of each week to work on your well-being. Find a partner to do it with you.
Can’t wait to see each and every one of you here at the Y in the near future.
