Post details: American Idol Kris Allen

06:21:00 am, by Leeanna ELLIS

You know I thought this was a possibility. I thought there was some chance that the dark horse would upset the favorite. Kris Allen is your new American Idol, but just how did he pull it off. I'll tell you. It's his nice guy charm. His humble beginnings with a very meek audition and from there he grew into the confidant performer you see in front of you today. He's one nobody really saw coming. He took in the criticizims the judges gave him and grew from week to week, allowing him to win the Idol crown.

Now, what I do want to question is whether he's been the front runner for a while and no one realized it because everyone was so focused on Adam. Yes, Kris was in the bottom 3 a few weeks ago. Yes, Adam was the most consistant performer, probably the most polished. But no one really knows if he was definitely the front runner. We all just assumed he was.

Looking back at past seasons, it really doesn't matter who wins. After all, one could finish fourth and still become a big star (Chris Daughtry).

So how do you all feel about your new American Idol? Are you disappointed? Should Idol reveal who's actually in first place every week instead of who is safe and who is going home? Should they change the format of how people win? Let me know how you feel.

It's been fun hearing what everyone has to say about American Idol. If the show comes back next year (and I'm assuming it will), we'll be back here again chatting about who's the favorite and who has to go. In the meantime, if there is any Idol news that comes up about Kris, Adam, other alumni or the judges, you can bet that I'll have something to say here on my blog. See ya' next January!

Who'd a thunk it? Was I surprised? Not at all. I believe Kris Allen became the 8th American Idol last night for a few reasons and they are:

1) He was riding a huge wave of momentum. In the past three/four weeks, he has given solid, spot-on performances and showed everyone that yes, I deserve your vote.

2) He's the All-American kid. You know - baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Kris Allen. He's the son every mother wants and the guy every girl wants to date. He's very non-threatening in every sense of the word. How can you NOT like Kris?

3) Everyone loves an underdog. No one saw him coming until recently, the 'so just to make it interesting, I'm going to vote for him' mentality kicked in. And, it was not a wasted vote.

4) Now here is where it gets a bit uncomfortable for me. I really believe that there is a huge Adam backlash out there and it has nothing to do with his talent or lack thereof. I believe that Kris, along with his momentum, got all of Danny Gokey's votes last night. Did those votes put him over the top or was he already there? No one knows for sure other than those accountants. I do think if Adam came off just as 'pure' as Kris, there would have been a different outcome. And I say this not to discredit Kris at all. He's deserving of everything he has coming with this title. But one has to wonder if Adam's lifestyle, and only his lifestyle, caused some people to put their votes elsewhere. So sad if that's true.

A few weeks ago, I found a list of the top 10 AI downloads on iTunes and Adam had eight of those. How did it turn around so quickly? If people are willing to buy his music, why didn't they vote for him in the same numbers? I find that fascinating.

Congratulations Kris. And kudos to Adam for his class in losing (if you really call that losing). Loved his performances with both KISS and Queen. He's a superstar in every sense of the word. I predict that he may well become the biggest thing ever to come out of American Idol. I still believe he's the best and most talented person this show has put out there. So sorry Taylor - I still love you!

Now what should they do with this show next year? Find another Adam Lambert - pretty please! Tuesday night's finals were the lowest rated finals in the last four years. AI is starting to show a bit of wear. Things have to change before the wheels really begin to fall off. Are the judges becoming stale? I say yes. Was Kara a good addition? Absolutely not especially since she's taking credit for writing that horrible coronation song. I liked the save. This year's themes were pretty good along with the mentors. Maybe after eight years, this show has gone as high as it's going to. Nothing lasts forever.

One thing I would like to see is maybe only one vote per phone. That would really make it interesting and maybe a more honest outcome. That's something to think about.

Now I have to try and find something to occupy my time until next January. Husker football and volleyball will help take up a bit of that time. I have my Adam downloads to listen to until they find the next person to capture my ear. Have a great summer and fall everyone and I will see you all back here in January 2010!!!

Kris has a good voice - but just doesn't have the "whole package" like Adam. I honestly believe American Idol picked him to win because he would be easier to market than Adam. Kris is kind of boring. Adam obviously knows what he wants and would probably not fit into their "pigeon hole". You really didn't think this show wasn't scripted did you?

I don't think that Adam's 'lifestyle' had anything to do with it. Kris's style of music just has a broader appeal. Kris and Danny had been splitting the votes all along. Heartless put Kris over the top, Danny went home, and then Kris got both sets of votes. Also, I don't think that the energy Adam gives off translates well through the tv screen. I think attending a live concert by him would be amazing, but sitting in my living room, it's not quite as powerful. It's not like it matters, if they make good choices, they will both have amazing careers.
