Post details: Think about those comments
As the 2008 campaign season was drawing to a close, the number of negative, attack advertisements from a host of candidates increased. There are plenty of people -- myself included -- who are turned off by these types of advertising. I can’t speak for others, but I find them to be hateful and full of half truths.
I’m confused by those who cry foul about this type of advertising, but have no problem using the same attack mentality on Web comments and letters to the editor. You only need to browse through comments on this Web site to see examples that are far worse than any political campaign sent out.
Sure, we will continue to post comments that included negativity. We also will continue to reject comments that appear to be attacks on others who make comments. But trying thinking about this before typing: Would I say that to my mother? If not, maybe the comment shouldn’t be made.
Comments:
Joel: spinless mr skippy
Task Force: spinless recommendations of the task force.
Floyd Erwin: Fremont sets on there backsides; I personaly am sick of all you crooked politicians
N8tive: i hate that the whites think they know everything. When they are the biggest thieves in US history.
Big Heraclio: Now how smart is this?
Spend Money: Fremont YMCA - Waste of MOney.
m: Skippys victory was a JOKE
American Patriot: slim pickens didn't get all the votes.
Dad: looks like Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader. **angry old man **
chris: 4 more years of mediocrity
resident: this is all a crock
goofrn: so is feeding your face to being over weight as well!!
xyz: this place is a joke
Joe P Sokolokosky: another "black eye" for we Nebraskans....Thanks, Gov Dave.. stop being a "typical politician"
Register Supporter: I hope Charlie Janssen does not cheat us like he has cheated others that counted on him.
sue: This isn't the first time i've seen Charlie drinkin' it up at the bars here in town.
Need I go on?
I will try to take Mr. Buffington's suggestions to heart, but with one caveat: I will only post comments that I'd be willing to say to my mother-in-law, but not to my mother. If everyone did that, there'd be no posts. At all.
I'll also try to limit my insults to people in general, rather than in-duh-viduals. But that'll be hard. Because I'm still Tired of Morons. Respectfully.
Omahan said 1 thing I agree with. If someone disagrees with what I, or fremonter, or anyone else says, well: "then let that person be subject to views". If I can dish it out, I should be able to take it.
But Omahan also said: "Fremont has serious problems all because of basically one person.." Is he referring to fremonter? Me? Skip? Bob Warner? Charlie Janssen? Charile Diers? Tracy Buffington? My mother-in-law?
Please be more specific so we can either mock you or defend the person of whom you slander.
T.O.M.
I think people should feel free to express their discontent with their city officials and representatives, but the personal attacks on others on the board are just getting old.
And for those who like to use the boards to complain about the Fremont Tribune, it takes a lot of nerve to take advantage of the FREE service they offer you, that they pay for I may add, and then in the next breath criticize it. It must not be that bad if you keep coming back. In these hard times it is nice to know the Tribune is available even if I can not afford a subscription.
But Nice Bobo will from now on, God (or whomever your higher power might be) willing, will be, well,...Nice.
But would we not all be better served if we also refrained from the personal name-calling of our public servants? They, like you and I, are human beings. Are they not therefore worthy of the same courtesy that we as private citizens demand of each other? If not more? Is it not customary to refer to a government official, such as a mayor, as "honorable"? I respectfully contend that if we are to progress as a community, society and planet all must practice what is commonly known as the Golden Rule.
